In the mid 1800s, Horace Mann captured the potential impact of education on society. We have yet to realize the potential he saw, and in fact, we are missing the mark by a wider and wider margin. We have created a «Toxic Culture of Education» in our country that is damaging students, impacting our economy, and threatening our future. Since the passage of No Child Left Behind, we have embraced a culture of high stakes testing and are perpetuating a false sense of failure in our schools. We have ignored research and data on effective policy making practices in order to serve the interest of private industries that have monetized our students. The impact is being felt in communities, on college campuses, and in our economy. The solution lies in a common sense approach to student development, curriculum choice, career exploration, and relevant data analysis. This talk will present a vision of an education system that allows us to embrace our full potential if we only had the courage to ask «Why Not»?

Karina sheds light on the history of bilingualism in the United States and how we can move forward in today’s educational system.

Karina’s talk also looks into the neural science behind bilingualism and its positive effects on cognitive flexibility, creativity and problem solving skills. Karina Chapa is a courageous bilingual advocate who proudly serves more than 160,000 bilingual students in deep South Texas. She is an Ex-A-Tec originally from Monterrey, Mexico. She is currently the Language Proficiency, Biliteracy and Cultural Diversity Director. She is also the Legislative Chair for the Texas Association for Bilingual Education and the Parliamentarian for RGV-TABE. She has dedicated 18 years of her professional career to empowering bilingual education students, teachers, and administrators in the deep South Texas border. Brad Blanton Phd. is a psychotherapist, trainer and american writer, author of the «Radical Honesty» bestseller, a book and a theory that challenges a fundamental and almost unchallenged belief of our society. In a truly honest talk, maybe brutally honest, Mr. Blanton convinced the audience that honesty, and not politeness or political correctness is the essence of human relationships and a fulfilled life. Maybe being radically honest all the time is difficult to accept, maybe it is even an idea that a lot of people cannot digest but it is surely an idea that at least has to be intellectually entertained.

By changing the way she talked and thought about herself, Kari Romeo was able to turn insecurity into joy, doubt into confidence, and shame into self-love. This is the story of how she became a more happy, confident woman. Kari believes that every human being has unlimited potential and that the key to unlocking that potential is learning to love ourselves. For most of her life, Kari doubted her abilities, her self-worth and struggled with a poor self-image. To the outsider, she seemed quite successful, giving little indication of the almost constant negative discourse going on in her own head. When Kari finally learned to love and appreciate herself, she found her pathway to success and happiness. Now she brings simple steps to help others release themselves from their judgmental prisons and open a world of unlimited potential.

She describes the urgent need to decarbonise national energy plans and presents technological pathways to enable decarbonisation.
With the aim of ‘leaving no one behind’, job space green recovery, sustainable and inclusive economies, she emphasizes the need for up-skilling and reskilling the labour force to keep up with the 4th industrial revolution towards sustainability.
Looking specifically at the role of ESG reporting and green finance lead innovation, she explains the importance of the EU taxonomy and the creation of clusters on sustainability transition.
