Prof. Phoebe Koundouri talks about the Sustainability Transition in Greece in the context of sustainable recovery post the 2020 covid19 virus pandemic.
Whilst the world is focussed on the pandemic, Prof. Koundouri reminds us to pay attention to the ‘mother of all crisis’, the climate crisis.
She describes the urgent need to decarbonise national energy plans and presents technological pathways to enable decarbonisation.
With the aim of ‘leaving no one behind’, job space green recovery, sustainable and inclusive economies, she emphasizes the need for up-skilling and reskilling the labour force to keep up with the 4th industrial revolution towards sustainability.
Looking specifically at the role of ESG reporting and green finance lead innovation, she explains the importance of the EU taxonomy and the creation of clusters on sustainability transition.

What if we turn this attention to a different population and say, dont rape? What are we doing wrong as a culture that we continue to produce rapists?

Through poignant storytelling, award-winning author and investigative producer Amy Herdy explores the cycle of sexual abuse and examines the dangers of dismissing our most violent predators as monsters.

For more than twenty years, journalist and author Amy Herdy has specialized in trauma reporting, particularly sexual assault.

Ms. Herdy’s professional engagements include teaching workshops on investigative reporting and trauma journalism for the U.S. State Department in Lahore, Karachi and Islamabad, Pakistan. Her awards include an Emmy; Society of Professional Journalists awards; a Radio, Television News Directors Association award; an Associated Press award; two American Society of Newspaper Editors awards and a Military Reporters

The educational sector in Nigeria is in a precarious state and as such, social change is far-fetched because education is a key driver for social change. There has been a huge disruption in the sector since the emergence of the Covid-19 crisis, which exposed the capitalism in education in Nigeria.
Dr. Mina in her talk questions and addresses the widening infrastructural and technological gaps between private and public institutions. She also addresses the effects of governments failure to mainstream digital learning and initiate an efficient fiscal policy on education in Nigeria.
She affirms that a responsive educational system builds resilient societies. Dr. Mina is a multiple award-winning Development Activist, a Ford Foundation fellow and a certified trainer and facilitator. She has over 20 years’ experience in development facilitation and has supported strategic development activities locally and globally. She has studied in several tertiary Institutions with a strong desire to search for global solutions to local problems. Her second PhD in Development Studies paved the way for the promotion of coping and adaptation strategies to pandemics and won her many awards. She has studied in several local, national and international institutions including Harvard University, Cambridge University etc.

With this talk, Dr. Nick Fuhrman encourages us to recognize the profound personal impact that we can have on others — both in and out of the classroom. Dr. Nick Fuhrman is an associate professor of environmental education in the Department of Agricultural Leadership, Education, and Communication. Also known as “Ranger Nick,” he teaches graduate courses in educational program development and data analysis and undergraduate courses in environmental education and teaching methods. Dr. Fuhrman received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Forestry from Virginia Tech and his PhD in Agricultural Education and Communication from the University of Florida. His life’s passion is teaching, and he often uses live animals (such as snakes, turtles, and owls) in the classroom and on his monthly television series, Ranger Nick. Dr. Fuhrman and his wife, Jessica, have a son, Miles, who already seems to love animals and the outdoors as much as his dad. Shirzad Chamine shows Stanford students how his research on positive intelligence can help them achieve their full potential for professional success and personal fulfillment.

Professor Shirzad Chamine is author of the New York Times bestseller Positive Intelligence. His work exposes 10 well-disguised mental saboteurs and shares how to defeat them. According to Chamine, «positive intelligence» measures the percentage of time our mind serves us as opposed to sabotaging us. While IQ and EQ (emotional intelligence) contribute to our maximum potential, it is PQ that determines how much of that potential we actually achieve. Chamine is chairman emeritus of CTI, the largest coachtraining organization in the world. Chamine has coached hundreds of CEOs and their executive teams. Before running CTI, he was the CEO of an enterprise software company. His background includes PhD studies in neuroscience in addition to a BA in psychology, an MS in electrical engineering and an MBA from Stanford.

LoVina Louie explains the historical root causes for the challenges facing many Native Americans. LoVina is an enrolled member of the schitsuumsh (Coeur d’Alene) Tribe and a descendant of the nselxcin (Okanogan/Colville) and Nimipu (Nez Perce) tribes. She is a descendant of Chief Morris Antelope of the schitsuumsh and Chief Manuel Louie of the Inkaneep Band in Oliver, BC, Canada.

LoVina is director of the Coeur d’Alene Tribe’s Marimn Health Wellness Center as well as the Coordinator for Qwest Life. She earned her Bachelors Degree from University of Idaho in Organizational Sciences with an emphasis in Community and Tribal Wellness.

LoVina is the visionary behind the revolutionary exercise series “Powwow Sweat” and co-directed the American Indian Film Festival and Red Nation Film Festival award winning music video “We Shall Remain.”

As a former Miss Indian World, she has traveled to hundreds of tribal communities. LoVina is a wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, friend and an amazing human being. 21 Year Old Usman Riaz grew up playing classical piano since the age of 6. Picking up guitar at 16 Usman taught himself how to play percussive guitar. Along with these 2 primary instruments he experiments with a number of other ones such as Harmonica, Mandolin, Harmonium and percussion. There are many kinds of planets and planetary systems that we knew nothing about just 20 years ago. Many of these planets and systems have gone through significant disruption events, have exotic dynamical histories, strange orbits. Others have been ejected completely from their systems and are wandering alone among the stars. Jason Steffen discusses our solar system and earth in the context of these extrasolar counterparts and looks at the fates we have thus far avoided.

As assistant professor of physics at UNLV Dr. Jason Steffen studies the characteristics of planets that are orbiting distant stars. He has served as a member of NASA’s Kepler mission for nearly ten years and co-chairs the working group that investigates the dynamical properties of these extrasolar systems. Steffen and his collaborators have discovered nearly 1000 planets orbiting distant stars and identified several thousand new planet candidates.

Prior to this, Steffen was a Lindheimer Fellow at Northwestern University and a Brinson Fellow in particle astrophysics at Fermilab where, in addition to work in exoplanets, he studied dark matter and dark energy. Steffen has authored, or co-authored over 60 papers which have been cited over 8000 times in the scholarly literature.

Steffen’s most famous papers, quite unrelated to either exoplanets or dark matter, are on the optimum method to board passengers onto airplanes (the currently undefeated «Steffen Method»).
