The Showhawk Duo bonded TEDxKlagenfurt’s audience with their spectacular approach to playing the guitar. Young British guitarists Mikhail Asanovic and Jake Wright, together known as The Showhawk Duo, started out as buskers and have since gone on to play all over the globe. They played at the UKs large festivals including the Main Stage at Bestival, Glastonbury, Secret Garden Party, Wilderness, Somersault and more. International performances include F1 Grand Prix in Singapore, Seychelles, club tours in Spain, Switzerland and the Netherlands and a 20 — date residency at Pacha in Ibiza. Acclaimed beatboxer Tom Thum and classical powerhouse Gordon Hamilton show you exactly how, as they showcase their world renowned concerto for beatbox and orchestra, Thum Prints.

Together with The Bombay Chamber Orchestra, they deliver a never before seen sneak peak into this globe trotting symphonic project. At first glance, you’d struggle to find a greater example of artistic polar opposites, yet anyone lucky enough to have witnessed this creative alliance would agree that the two compliment each other perfectly.
Executing performances with some of the worlds most renowned orchestras, such as the Queensland Symphony Orchestra, Malaysian Philharmonic, Cologne’s WDR Funkhausorchester, Florida’s Imperial Symphony Orchestra, Nürnberg Symphoniker, and the Sydney Symphony Orchestra to name a few, the pair have been turning concert halls on their heads and continuing to wow audiences with this remarkable collaboration.

Simply titled, ‘Thum Prints’ this boundary pushing symphony comprises mainly of original compositions, wholly written by Tom and Gordon. Bridged by comedic interludes, it has the ability to be programmed as a full 60 minute show, or as a 20 minute concerto in a longer symphonic program. 21 Year Old Usman Riaz grew up playing classical piano since the age of 6. Picking up guitar at 16 Usman taught himself how to play percussive guitar. Along with these 2 primary instruments he experiments with a number of other ones such as Harmonica, Mandolin, Harmonium and percussion. His recent at TED performances and talks at TED Global 2012 and his selection for the US State department funded cultural/music exchange program OneBeat have proven to him that the internet can be used as a reliable platform to learn new things and open up pathways that seemed impossible before.

Tommy Emmanuel created a life for himself as a one-man band and has become one of Australias most respected musicians. With light vim and pure talent, he demonstrates his unique playing style, which is notably a development of the Travis picking technique and blending of rhythm and melody.

In his career, hes played on recordings for Air Supply and Men at Work and in his twenties he joined one of Australias biggest rock acts, Dragon. Now, as a two-time Grammy nominee with a career spanning five decades, he has, for several years, performed over 300 concerts annually. Hes worked with Martin Taylor on a jazz-inspired duet album The Colonel and the Governor. His most recent original material is Little By Little (2011).

She explores imagination and meditation as tools to revive ourselves and raise our perception of self-worth.

The Venerable Bhikshuni Karma Trime Lhamo, an American-born Buddhist nun, is the director of the Princeton Buddhist Meditation Group. A practitioner for nearly 40 years, Ani Trime originally studied with Chögyam Trungpa Rinpoche, one of the first Tibetan Buddhist masters to teach in the West, and she is now a student of the Tibetan teacher Anam Thubten. She has also studied and practiced to some extent in the Theravada and Zen traditions. Ani Trime’s down-to-earth, straightforward approach emphasizes meditation practice, kindness, and everyday experience, all presented with humor and warmth.
